Pricing

What does a website redesign cost?

Straight answer: between $5,000 and $50,000, and the range is not arbitrary. Here is exactly what moves the number, so you can work out roughly where your project lands before you talk to anyone.

Why most agencies will not tell you

Ask an agency what a website costs and you usually get "it depends" followed by a form. It does depend, but not so much that nobody can give you a range. Withholding the range is a sales tactic, not a pricing reality.
So here is the range: $5,000 at the low end, $50,000 at the high end, with most B2B projects landing in the middle. Below $5,000 you are buying a template fill, which is a legitimate purchase but not what I do.

Why cheap websites cost more

A $1,500 website is a real thing you can buy, and for some businesses it is the correct purchase. A local service business that needs a credible online presence and gets its work from referrals does not need a $20,000 site.
The problem starts when a business with real acquisition goals buys at that level. What you get is a template with your logo on it: no conversion thinking, no strategy about which pages matter, no design system, and usually no plan for what happens when you need to change something.
Twelve to eighteen months later the pattern is familiar. The site does not generate enquiries, nobody can edit it safely, and the rebuild costs what the proper build would have cost originally, plus the eighteen months of lost pipeline.
The honest framing is not cheap versus expensive. It is whether the site is an expense you minimise or an acquisition channel you invest in, and both answers are legitimate depending on where your customers come from.
Cost drivers

What moves the price

Page count

A focused six-page site is a different job from forty pages with unique layouts. Page count is the single biggest driver.

Platform

WordPress, Shopify and HubSpot each carry different build overheads. Ecommerce and CMS module work sit above brochure sites.

Content readiness

If copy and assets are ready, the build moves fast. If content needs creating, that is real work and it is priced.

Migration

Moving platforms adds inventory, redirect mapping and reconciliation on top of the build.

Custom functionality

Calculators, integrations, gated content and anything touching your CRM add scope beyond design and front-end.

Marketing system

A site alone costs less than a site plus the ads, tracking and funnel built around it.

Where the money actually goes

On a typical B2B website project, design is a smaller share of the cost than most people expect. The larger portions are strategy and front-end build. Strategy covers the audit, the page map, and the conversion thinking that decides what gets built at all. Front-end build is turning approved design into a responsive, tested, fast site that works on real devices.
That ratio matters because it explains why cheap sites underperform rather than just looking worse. A $2,000 site skips the strategy entirely and rushes the build. You get something that looks acceptable in a screenshot and falls apart under real traffic.
It also explains why the range is wide. Two sites with the same page count can differ several times over in cost depending on how much thinking and custom build each one needs.

How to compare quotes properly

When you get several quotes, the useful comparison is not the number at the bottom. It is what each one includes. Ask whether strategy and the conversion audit are in scope or billed separately. Ask who writes the copy. Ask whether redirects and SEO preservation are included in a rebuild or treated as an add-on. Ask how many revision rounds are covered before extra charges start.
A quote that looks cheaper often is not, once the excluded items are added back. A quote that looks expensive is sometimes the only complete one.
The other question worth asking: what happens after launch? A site handed over with no documentation and no design system will cost you again in six months when nobody can extend it.
Investment

The honest range

$5,000 to $50,000

Every project is quoted fixed-scope before work starts. You will know the number before you commit, and it does not move unless you change the scope.
→ $5,000 to $15,000: focused rebuild of the pages that matter
→ $15,000 to $30,000: full site rebuild with a design system
→ $30,000 to $50,000: site plus migration, ecommerce, or marketing system
