What does a WordPress web designer in Vancouver actually do?

A WordPress web designer plans the pages a buyer needs, designs them on your brand, builds them on WordPress in your own hosting account, and wires the forms so every lead arrives with its source. I do all four myself, from the first call to launch, on a fixed quote in Canadian dollars.

How much does WordPress web design cost in Vancouver?

In my quotes, a five-page WordPress site for a small business is CA$5,950, a custom B2B site of up to five pages is CA$8,950, and a marketing site of 8 to 15 pages starts at CA$10,495. The number is fixed before work starts.

The five-page site is built from my tested section library and styled to your logo, colours and fonts. It includes one contact or quote form that records where each enquiry came from, Google Analytics 4 with the form tracked, page titles and descriptions, LocalBusiness structured data, an XML sitemap submitted to Google and Bing, your Google Business Profile linked to the site, up to ten old URLs redirected, basic accessibility checks, two revision rounds per phase, an editing walkthrough video and 30 days of fixes after launch. You supply the text and images. If you want me to write the five pages, copywriting is CA$1,325.

The custom B2B site starts from a blank page instead of the library. It adds research on your buyer before design, per-page structured data and FAQ blocks so AI answer engines can read the site, a WCAG 2.2 AA audit report, and lead source tracking on every form with the handoff into your CRM. The marketing site is the same build at 8 to 15 pages. An online store on WooCommerce, whether a new build or a migration from Wix or Shopify, starts at CA$15,995.

Three things move the price: page count, whether the design is custom or library-based, and whether content has to be moved from another platform. Moving more than ten URLs, or moving a whole site from Wix, Squarespace, Webflow or Framer without a redesign, is a separate CA$2,500 migration. A domain and managed WordPress hosting are paid by you to the provider, in your name; I do not resell either, so budget for them on top of the build.

Jackai Agency WordPress prices in Canadian dollars: migration only CA$2,500, five-page small business site CA$5,950, custom B2B site up to five pages CA$8,950, marketing site of 8 to 15 pages from CA$10,495

How much does it cost to hire someone to design a WordPress website in Vancouver?

Budget builders in Vancouver publish CA$1,250 to CA$2,400 for a templated site, and the Canadian small-business band most agencies work in runs CA$3,000 to CA$8,000. My five-page site is CA$5,950 and a custom B2B build is CA$8,950, and both come with a written scope so you can compare like with like.

Is the website audit credited against a build?

Yes. The CA$995 website audit is credited in full if a build starts within 30 days of the report. Most Vancouver clients start there, because the report tells you what the current site is losing before you spend on a new one.

Is WordPress still worth it in 2026, or is it outdated?

WordPress is still the platform I build most Vancouver B2B and retail sites on, because the client owns the site, the data and the hosting and can move any of them. What is outdated is the 2018 way of building it: a heavy theme and forty plugins.

The numbers have not moved much. W3Techs counts WordPress on 58.6 per cent of the websites whose content system it can identify, as of October 2026 (industry source, not peer reviewed). Nothing with that footprint disappears in a year. What has changed is the field around it: Framer and Webflow took the design-led marketing site, Shopify took most of retail, and AI page builders now produce a passable brochure site in an afternoon.

So the question for a Vancouver business is not whether WordPress is dead. It is whether the way your site is built will still be fast, editable and secure in three years. A site built on a bought theme, with a page builder bolted on and a plugin for every feature, is slow on day one and slower every update. A site built on a lean builder with a global class system, a handful of audited plugins and automatic updates, stays fast and stays yours.

When I recommend something else, I say so on the first call. A startup that needs a five-page site and will never touch a database does well on Framer at CA$4,950. A retailer with a simple catalogue and no custom checkout rules does well on Shopify. I design and build on all three, so the recommendation is about your business, not my toolbox.

What is replacing WordPress?

Nothing replaces it wholesale. Framer and Webflow replaced it for design-led marketing sites, Shopify replaced it for most online stores, and static generators replaced it for documentation. For a B2B company that publishes, captures leads and wants to own the whole stack, WordPress on a modern builder is still the one I reach for. If you are on Framer and have outgrown it, I run a Framer to WordPress migration.

Is anyone in Vancouver still building on WordPress?

Yes. Three of the four WordPress sites on this page are Vancouver or Seattle businesses launched in the last two years, including the authorized S.T. Dupont store for Canada and a 638-product cigar retailer that both moved off Wix.

Why do I build WordPress on Bricks instead of Elementor or a bought theme?

Because page weight and the editing experience are what you live with for years. Bricks writes lean markup, has a global class system I use as a design system, and does not tie your site to a theme vendor who may stop updating it.

Speed is not a vanity metric. In a controlled experiment, Galletta, Henry, McCoy and Polak loaded the same site with delays from zero to twelve seconds and measured what happened: attitudes toward the site, intention to return and task performance all fell as the delay grew, and most of the loss had already happened within the first few seconds (Galletta et al., Journal of the Association for Information Systems, 2004). A theme that ships 40 scripts on every page spends that budget before your headline loads.

The editing side matters as much. Every site I hand over uses global classes, so a heading on page nine looks like the heading on page one without anyone matching hex codes. New pages are assembled from the same blocks. Your marketing person can publish a landing page on a Tuesday without a developer, and it will still look like the rest of the site.

The third reason is ownership. Bricks is a lifetime licence I buy in your name, the site runs on standard WordPress, and nothing I build depends on a subscription that can lapse. If you ever want another developer to take over, the global classes and the page structure are readable in the builder, not buried in a theme panel.

Galletta, Henry, McCoy and Polak (2004): as page delay grows from 0 to 12 seconds, attitude toward the site, intent to return and task performance all fall, with most of the loss in the first few seconds

How do you rebuild a WordPress site without losing SEO?

Crawl every URL before the build, keep the addresses that rank, map the ones that change to a 301 before launch, carry page titles and body depth over, block the staging site, then watch Search Console for 404s for 30 days.

Most ranking losses after a redesign come from three mistakes: a slug that changed without a redirect, a page that got thinner because a section was "cleaned up", and a staging site that Google indexed as a duplicate. All three are avoidable with a checklist, and the checklist is cheaper than the recovery.

On a rebuild, I export the full URL list and the Search Console data for the last 16 months before any design work. The pages that bring traffic or hold backlinks get flagged. Their addresses stay, their titles stay, and their body copy keeps its depth even when it is rewritten. Pages that must move get a 301 line in a redirect map that goes live with the new site, not the week after. The staging site sits behind a password until launch.

After launch I check Search Console weekly for 30 days: coverage, 404s, and the position of the ten queries the old site ranked for. If you are only moving platforms and keeping the design, the CA$2,500 migration covers exactly this: the redirect map, the content move and the Search Console checks, with no redesign. The full process is on the WordPress website redesign page.

Five steps to rebuild a WordPress site without losing rankings: crawl every URL, keep the slugs that rank, carry titles and depth over, block the staging site, launch and watch Search Console for 30 days

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

Not when the migration is planned. Every URL is mapped and redirected, titles and content depth carry over, and I watch Search Console after launch. The sites that lose rankings are the ones where the redirects were an afterthought.

Should I hire a Vancouver WordPress agency, a freelancer, or let an AI builder do it?

Hire a person when the site has to win a buyer who is comparing you against three competitors in another tab. AI builders produce the median page, and the research on first impressions says the median page is what costs you.

A buyer decides how your site looks before reading a word of it. Lindgaard, Fernandes, Dudek and Brown showed people web pages for 50 milliseconds and asked them to rate visual appeal; those snap ratings matched the ratings given after a longer look (Lindgaard et al., Behaviour & Information Technology, 2006). That is faster than a blink, and it is the moment a templated site loses.

The next moment is trust. When Fogg and colleagues at Stanford asked 2,684 people to explain why they found a site credible, the design look came up in 46.1 per cent of the comments, ahead of information structure at 28.5 per cent and information focus at 25.1 per cent (Fogg et al., Proceedings of DUX 2003). Flavián, Guinalíu and Gurrea then found that higher perceived usability raises satisfaction and trust, and that trust is what brings a visitor back (Flavián et al., Information & Management, 2006).

An agency gives you an account manager and a team you never meet. A freelancer gives you one person, usually without the research or the tracking. I sit in between on purpose: one senior designer who has shipped sites for a French luxury maison, a Vancouver SaaS company and a UK distributor, doing the research, the design and the build himself, with a written scope and a fixed price. You talk to the person doing the work, and the work has a name on it.

Fogg et al. (2003), 2,684 participants: design look mentioned in 46.1 per cent of credibility comments, information structure 28.5 per cent, information focus 25.1 per cent

Is web design still worth paying for in 2026?

For a brochure nobody will judge you by, no; use Framer or an AI builder. For a site that has to beat three competitors in a Vancouver buyer's open tabs, yes, because the first 50 milliseconds and the credibility judgement are decided by design, and neither is something a template does for you.

Do I need a Vancouver designer, or can I hire anywhere?

You can hire anywhere. What a Vancouver designer adds is the local layer: Google Business Profile set up and linked, LocalBusiness structured data with a real address, Canadian dollar pricing on the page, PIPEDA-aware forms, and someone who can meet you on West Cordova if the project needs a whiteboard.

What have Vancouver clients had from me on WordPress?

Two Vancouver retailers moved off Wix to WordPress and WooCommerce, one of them the authorized S.T. Dupont store for Canada. A Vancouver SaaS company had its homepage and webinar library rebuilt. The before and after screens are above.

S.T. Dupont Vancouver, a luxury retailer and authorized dealer for the French maison, had its online store closed for more than six months after Wix stopped allowing its category. I moved 290 products to WordPress and WooCommerce on Bricks with the taxonomy, pricing and product copy intact, added filters by maison, finish and price, connected the Clover POS and tested it at checkout, and moved the dealer proof above the fold. In the first 90 days on WooCommerce, online sales were 5x the last 90 days the old Wix store could sell. Same licence, same products, same store. The case study is at joshuajackai.com/work/st-dupont.

Cubanbest, a Vancouver premium retailer, moved 638 products from Wix to WooCommerce on the same stack; I worked with the founders on strategy, design and development. Advisor Websites, a Vancouver SaaS platform for financial advisors, had its homepage and webinar replay library rebuilt (on HubSpot, not WordPress) with opt-in templates; organic traffic rose 58 per cent and MQL conversion 28 per cent. W Communications, a Seattle communications firm, had its WordPress homepage rebuilt so four different audiences each get their own path.

Every one of those forms records its source. The pattern is the same on each site: UTM parameters on every link, a form that carries the source, campaign and landing page into the CRM, and AI referral traffic separated from direct. Forms that follow usability guidelines get finished faster and with fewer errors, which is why I build every form to the twenty guidelines Seckler and colleagues tested (Seckler et al., CHI 2014).

Lindgaard et al. (2006): people rated a web page's visual appeal in 50 milliseconds, and those snap ratings matched ratings given after a longer look

Do you host and maintain WordPress sites in Vancouver?

I do not resell hosting. I set the site up on a managed WordPress host in your own account, hand you the admin, and stay available on a care plan at CA$279 an hour after the 30 days of included fixes.

Hosting in your name matters more than most clients expect. It means the invoice, the backups and the DNS are yours, and if we ever part ways nothing has to be transferred. I will recommend a host on the first call based on where your buyers are and whether you need the data to sit in Canada, and I set up automatic backups, updates and a staging copy before launch.

Maintenance on a lean build is light: core and plugin updates, a monthly check of forms and tracking, and the occasional content change. Most clients run it themselves with the walkthrough video. The ones who want it handled book care hours as needed, or the AI referral retainer at CA$1,870 a month, which adds a weekly lead report and the work of keeping the company cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers.

Who is this for?

Vancouver B2B and professional services

SaaS, clean-tech, advisors and consultancies whose buyers read the site before a first call. The build is the conversion path, not just the paint.

The site is slow, hard to edit and off-brand. You get a clean WordPress build you can run yourself, with every URL carried over.

How does a WordPress project run?

  1. Step 1

    Research and page map

Your buyer, their objections and the proof that answers them. Traffic and rankings reviewed, every URL listed before design.

  2. Step 2

    Design on your brand

Wireframes, then visual design on your logo, colours and fonts, phone first. One review loop per phase.

  3. Step 3

    Build and migrate

WordPress on Bricks in your own hosting account, content carried over, redirects mapped and live before launch.

  4. Step 4

    Launch and measure

Tracking live, Search Console watched for 30 days, admin handover with a walkthrough video.

Questions, answered

How much does a WordPress website cost in Vancouver?

A five-page WordPress site for a small business is CA$5,950, a custom B2B site of up to five pages is CA$8,950, and a marketing site of 8 to 15 pages starts at CA$10,495. An online store starts at CA$15,995. The calculator above prices your scope in about a minute.

How long does a WordPress build take?

A five-page site takes two to three weeks from the day your text and images arrive. A custom B2B site takes four to six weeks. The launch date is set in writing at kickoff.

Is WordPress outdated in 2026?

No. It runs 58.6 per cent of the websites whose content system W3Techs can identify as of October 2026. What is outdated is building it on a heavy theme with forty plugins; a lean builder and a handful of audited plugins keep it fast.

Can I redesign my WordPress site without losing SEO?

Yes, when every URL is crawled first, the ranking pages keep their addresses, moved pages get a 301 before launch, and Search Console is watched for 30 days after. That checklist is part of every rebuild I do.

Can I edit the site myself afterwards?

Yes. You get a WordPress admin you can run without a developer, a walkthrough video and a one-page guide. Pages are built from reusable blocks, so a new page is assembly rather than design.

Do you work with my existing brand?

Yes. The site is styled to your logo, colours and fonts. I do not offer logo or branding work, so if you need a brand first, that comes from a brand designer before we start.

Do you work outside Vancouver?

Yes. Recent clients are in Vancouver, Seattle, Arizona, Florida and the UK, and the whole project runs over calls and a shared workspace. Vancouver clients can meet in person on West Cordova.

Who owns the site when it is done?

You do. The domain, the hosting, the WordPress admin and the Bricks licence are all in your name from day one, and I keep no access you have not granted.
